SINGAPORE—ST Engineering has secured a five-year MRO contract to service the CFM International Leap 1B engines that power Korean Air's Boeing 737 MAX fleet.

The Singaporean aftermarket services company will provide quick-turn services, including on high-pressure turbine (HPT) blades, as well as performance restoration shop visits (PRSV) at its Singapore facility.

As the first aftermarket shop in Asia to be designated as a Premier MRO provider within CFM's Leap open MRO ecosystem, ST Engineering has capabilities in high-pressure compressor rotor and HPT rotor balancing, high-speed grinding and engine testing.

A new client for ST Engineering, Korean Air is South Korea’s largest Boeing 737 MAX family operator. The Aviation Week Fleet Discovery database shows the flag-carrier operates six 737-8 and has another 19 on order.

Korean Air’s commitment comes ahead of the completion of its own engine MRO facility in Unbuk, near Seoul's Incheon International Airport. Once operational in 2027, the 140,000-m2 (1.5 million-ft.2) facility will see the flag carrier broadens its engine capabilities to include the GEnx and Leap 1B.
