SINGAPORE—ST Engineering announced on March 6 that it will consolidate its MRO operations in the U.S., transferring work carried out at VT Mobile Aerospace Engineering (VT MAE) in Mobile, Alabama, to the company’s sites in Pensacola, Florida, and San Antonio, Texas.
“This strategic move is part of our continuous network optimization effort to streamline our operations while adding newer and more modern facilities under ongoing expansion plans. With a more optimized network, we can enhance the competitiveness of our airframe MRO business," said ST Engineering Commercial Aerospace President Jeffrey Lam.
VT Mobile Aerospace Engineering focuses on aircraft heavy maintenance, modifications and engineering services.
ST Engineering said the move will play out over the next few months. The company said it is providing support to Mobile employees, including redeployment opportunities to other U.S. facilities, as well as outplacement and transition assistance.
According to the city of Mobile, VT MAE employed around 1,280 full-time and contracted staff in 2023, making it the city’s ninth-largest employer, local media WRKG reported.
ST Engineering is currently building a third hangar with two widebody aircraft bays at the Pensacola site, with an end state of four hangars.
