India Looks To Turkey For MRO

Turkish Technic is leveraging its position at the border between European and Asia to pick up big maintenance contracts on both continents.

This week, at Aviation Week's MRO Middle East 2025, it signed deals with India’s two biggest carriers, Air India Group and Indigo Airlines, to provide narrowbody maintenance services.

For low-cost subsidiary Air India Express, Turkish Technic will provide component services – including pooling, repair, overhaul and modifications – for the airline’s incoming Boeing 737 Max 8 and 10 aircraft fleet, which could reach 190 aircraft.

Air India Express currently operates almost 40 Max 8s.
“We are confident in our capabilities and global supply chain network to continue enhancing their operational efficiency,” said Mikail Akbulut, CEO of Turkish Technic.

Turkish Technic has also agreed to provide redelivery checks for more than 10 of Indigo’s Airbus A320neo aircraft, having won a similar contract for seven A320neo redelivery checks last year.
The checks will occur at Turkish Technic’s Istanbul Ataturk and Sabiha Gokcen facilities.

Turkish and Indigo are also in advanced discussions for another agreement covering the landing gear overhaul operations for the carrier’s A320neo fleet.

“We are delighted to bolster our long-standing partnership with IndiGo, building on the various maintenance services we provided for them over the years,” said Akbulut.

Turkish Airlines’ maintenance arm grew its external sales by 27% in the first half of last year, sustaining the momentum it built up in 2023, when external sales climbed by more than 25%.

To support third-party customers and the growth of its parent airline’s massive fleet, Turkish Technic increased headcount by more than 10% to 10,500 staff in 2023.
