U.S. ULCC Frontier Airlines will become the second carrier to serve Seattle Paine Field Airport (PAE), competing with Alaska Airlines on two routes.

PAE—best known for its proximity to Boeing’s factory in Everett, Washington, and as the site of many test flights for the OEM—began handling commercial flights in March 2019. But only Alaska, based at nearby Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), serves the airport. Paine Field is about 30 mi. north of SEA.

From June 2, Frontier will launch flights from PAE to three destinations, including two already served by Alaska. The all-Airbus A320-family operator will fly from PAE to Las Vegas and Phoenix. Alaska operates both routes, which Frontier will fly 3X-weekly.

The carrier will also open 3X-weekly flights between Paine Field and its Denver base from June 2.
In addition to Las Vegas and Phoenix, Alaska serves Honolulu and five California destinations from PAE: Los Angeles, Orange County, Palm Springs, San Diego and San Francisco.

Frontier is also planning to start 2X-weekly flights between San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, from June 19.
