ANA's first 777-300ER with AeroShark.
All Nippon Airways (ANA) has expanded the AeroShark riblet film program from its Boeing 777F freighter fleet to a passenger 777-300ER airliner.
ANA's first 777-300ER to receive the riblet film technology entered commercial service on April 26.
Aviation Week Fleet Discovery data shows the aircraft, registered JA796A, is just shy of six years old and is one of 13 777-300ERs and eight 777-200ERs ANA has in its fleet.
The Japanese carrier initially applied the Lufthansa Technik and BASF technology to one 777F in September 2024, and has since seen 1% improvement in fuel efficiency, the airline told Aviation Week.
ANA said it will continue to expand this technology to other 777s to achieve the ANA Group's medium to long-term environmental goals, although it did not provide a clear product rollout timeline.
The 777 is the only aircraft for which Lufthansa Technik and BASF hold supplemental type certificates for the application of AeroShark. Around 28 777s from Austrian Airlines, LATAM, Lufthansa and Swiss have had the AeroShark film applied.
