Southwest, Tarrant County College Win AMC Competition Top Honors

The Aerospace Maintenance Council’s 2025 Competition was dominated for a second year in a row by Southwest Airlines Team Herb and Tarrant County College, which both won top honors last year.

Team Herb took first place in the commercial category and won the William F. “Bill” O’Brien Award for Excellence in Aircraft Maintenance. It also placed as the top professional team in six of the competition’s 27 maintenance skill events.

Tarrant County College took first place in the school category and placed as the top school team in six of the competition’s events.

This year’s competition had 86 teams and competitors from eight countries. It was livestreamed around the world and watched by viewers in 47 countries. More than 42,000 livestream viewers voted for the AireXpert Dream Team Award, which went to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Team 1.

AzulTec Team 1 won the Paul Cousins Award for this year’s top international team. United Airline’s Base Team won the MRO/OEM category, Aircraft Engineers International won the general aviation category and the U.S. Army 128th Aviation Brigade’s Team Chinook won the military category.

In the commercial category, Alaska Airlines’ Team Seattle and United Airlines’ Line team took second and third place, respectively. Team Seattle won the PPG Wing Sealant and WiN MS Fast Wiring Diagnostics events. United Airlines’ Line team won the Abaris Training Composite Repair Skills, Barfield Air Data and Barfield Antenna Testing events.

In the MRO/OEM category, Southwest Airlines’ Team Colleen and FedEx Express’s Team Indy also had dominant showings. Team Colleen took second place in the category and won four events, while Team Indy took third place in the category and won three events.

In the school category, Lewis University took second place and Tulsa Tech’s Adult Students team took third place. Lewis University won the United Airlines Render Safe and United Airlines Fuel Tank Entry Precautions events. Tulsa Tech’s Adult Students team won the Eaton Rigid Tube Assembly Repair event.

Several school teams won professionalism awards, including the Aviation Institute of Maintenance – Atlanta, Indian Hills Community College, Centennial College and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – Team 1. Student competitor Hugo Hernandez from West Los Angeles College and Sergeant First Class Curtis Parker from the U.S. Army’s Team Blackhawk won AMC Professionalism Awards.
