Canadian carrier Porter Airlines is boosting its regional aircraft maintenance capacity by leasing a hangar in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The 20,000 ft.2 facility will provide dedicated maintenance capacity for Porter’s Embraer 195-E2 and De Havilland Dash 8-400 fleets.
“Porter is making strategic investments to support our continued growth and provide the best service to our customers,” said Kent Woodside, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Porter Airlines. “Halifax is an important part of our network, and this hangar provides a dedicated location to maintain our fleet, while creating rewarding careers within the community.”
Last year, the Toronto-headquartered carrier opened a new aircraft maintenance base in Ottawa to serve as its primary repair facility. It consists of two aircraft hangars at Ottawa International Airport covering 150,000 ft.2, as well as a new taxiway and repair shops for structures, components, wheels and batteries.
Like in Halifax, the Ottawa facility supports maintenance of Porter’s Dash 8-400s, as well as its growing E195-E2 aircraft.
Porter was the launch customer for the E195-E2, and in 2023 it exercised purchase rights for 25 additional units, on top of an existing order for 50 of the aircraft type.
Prior to the E195-E2’s entry into service, in 2021 Porter signed a Total Support Program agreement with Embraer covering airframe heavy maintenance checks, technical solutions and access to the OEM’s pool program, which includes component exchanges and repair services for hundreds of repairable items for Porter’s E2 fleet of commercial aircraft, for up to 20 years.
Embraer delivered 39 E195-E2s last year, the majority of which went to Porter.
