HaveUs Aerotech is planning to establish an MRO facility in the eastern part of India, “an untapped market in terms of aerospace MRO,” says Managing Director Anshul Bhargava.
The company is planning to invest over 50 crore Indian rupees (approximately $5.8 million) in the facility, which will be located at Barrackpore in Kolkata, where it recently acquired around two acres of land. The facility’s proximity to Kolkata International Airport, which is approximately 7 mi. away, will provide logistics and supply chain benefits.
The Kolkata MRO will initially focus on avionics, wheels and brakes and other components. In its second phase, HaveUs Aerotech plans to expand into component MRO with a specialization in radomes, avionics and landing gear repairs, as well as certain defense projects.
The company plans to recruit 100-150 highly skilled staff, including aerospace engineers and technicians, with the potential to grow as the facility expands.
“There are hardly any MROs in the eastern part of India and the market is largely untapped. We want to make the most of it,” says Bhargava. “We are also seeking the support of local authorities and West Bengal government to establish a robust MRO ecosystem in the region.”
HaveUs plans to use the facility to provide what it says will be affordable services to aircraft from neighboring Asian countries such as Bangladesh, Myanmmar and Nepal. Currently, aircraft from Eastern Asia usually seek maintenance services in China, Singapore or MROs further west.
“By providing the operators affordable services right next door, [we] aim to address the AOG issues along the East India border areas,” Bhargava says.
Moving forward, HaveUs Aerotech is also planning a large MRO facility in Mumbai as part of its pan-India MRO expansion strategy. In November, the company opened a new engineering spares warehouse near Bengaluru International Airport.
HaveUs Aerotech holds approvals from India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation and the European Union Safety Agency. It also operates facilities in Delhi and Gurgaon.
