Gallery: Boeing's Latest EcoDemonstrator Debuts At Oshkosh
July 26, 2022Boeing brought its ninth Ecodemonstrator aircraft, a 777-200ER, to AirVenture this year as a way to show its commitment to sustainability.
The Ecodemonstrator program is marking its 10th year.
The aircraft has 30 technologies that Boeing is evaluating that could be incorporated into its product lines, ranging from engines that can burn 50-50 synthetic aviation fuel (SAF) and Jet-A mixtures to ways of keeping lavatories cleaner and using biodegradable plant materials for tray tables. The aircraft flew to Oshkosh on a 30-70 blend because of the limited amounts of SAF that is available.
Program Manager Rae Lutters says the nearly 20-yr.-old aircraft was chosen because it enables Boeing to test more intrusive technologies than what would be possible on a newer customer airplane. Normally Eco-demonstrators are newer aircraft and are "later delivered to customers.”
