Randy Ball flies an afterburner pass in his MiG-17. Ball is the only demo pilot, either military or civilian, to be granted both a day and night “unlimited aerobatic” rating in jet fighters by the FAA. Ball has flown more than 14,000 airshow performances. He has more than 18,000 flight hr., including 1,800 hr. in Russian fighter jets.

One of the largest crowds in recent years is treated to fireworks to close out the evening air show at Oshkosh.
The Lockheed Martin F-35 and the Heritage Flight marking the 75th anniversary of the U.S. Air Force starred in the July 27 event, which also featured a demonstration by a MiG-17 doing aerobatics in afterburner.
