Qatar Airways revealed a deal for an additional 20 Boeing 777-9s, increasing its 777X order book to more than 90 aircraft.
The order, announced at Farnborough Tuesday, was finalized earlier this year but listed as unidentified on Boeing’s Orders & Deliveries website.
It means the oneworld alliance member has 60 777-9s plus 34 777-8Fs. In addition to the 777X-family, Qatar Airways also has 12 Boeing 787s and 25 Boeing 737 MAXs on order.
Details of the order come after the airline revealed that its new QSuite Next Gen business-class product will be introduced on the planned fleet of 777-9s once the first aircraft start to arrive, which is slated for the fourth quarter of 2025. The new suite will also be installed in those outstanding aircraft of the airline’s current order for Airbus A350s.
As reported by ATW, the new suite will have wider seats and convert into a longer lie-flat bed with higher walls.
The 777-9 is the largest in the 777X-family and will have capacity for 426 passengers in a two-class configuration and a range of 7,295 nm (8,395 mi.).
Boeing's 2024 Commercial Market Outlook forecasts that twin-aisle jets will make up 44% of the region's fleet across Middle Eastern operators over the next 20 years.
