All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Recaro at AIX 2025 have unveiled the airline’s new premium economy and economy seats, which will be introduced on Boeing 787-9 plying international routes starting in fiscal 2026.
A new business class product is also in the works.
The new premium economy R4 seat sees the pitch increased from 38 in. to 40 in., while recline is also increased by 2 in. to 9 in. These seats will have a 15.6 in. screen.
The space around the knees on the Recaro R3 economy class seats has been redesigned to provide an additional 1 in., and recline also increased 2 in., or 1.5 times the previous seats. The economy class seats will have a 13.3 in. screen.
Both seat types are fitted with AC power, USB Type A & C charging facilities, Bluetooth audio connectivity and a footrest.
The new seats will be installed on three 787-9s in fiscal 2026, ANA said. The airline’s 16 787-9s already in operation will also be retrofitted and introduced after fiscal 2027.
ANA did not disclose if the seating configuration will be changed and added that a new business class seat will be revealed at the upcoming Paris Airshow in June.
ANA has two 787-9 layouts: the 246-seat version with 40 business, 14 premium economy and 192 economy seats, and the 215-seat version with 48 business, 21 premium economy and 146 economy seats.
