Thai AirAsia continues to make building up its domestic network a priority, adding two more to increase its offering to more than 40 total routes within Thailand.
The LCC will open service between Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) and Chiang Rai from Oct. 1. It will fly the route 2X-daily.
On the same date, Thai AirAsia will launch service between BKK and Nakhon Si Thammarat, operating the route daily.
Tansita Akraritpirom, Thai AirAsia’s head of commercial, said the airline is “doubling down on our commitment to domestic connectivity.”
The carrier already has plans to start new domestic services from BKK from July 1, opening 3X-daily service to Buriram. On the same date, Thai AirAsia additionally will open daily service from BKK to both Narathiwat and Surat Thani.
Those three routes and the two services starting in October will bring to 11 the number of domestic routes the airline operates from BKK. It currently serves six domestic destinations from BKK: Chiang Mai (8X-daily), Phuket (6X-daily), Krabi (3X daily), Hat Yai (2X-daily), Udon Thani (2X-daily) and Khon Kaen (2X-daily).
Thai AirAsia also operates 22 domestic routes from Don Mueang International (DKM), Bangkok’s second airport. The carrier already serves Chiang Rai from DKM 6X-daily. It also operates 5X-daily flights between DKM and Nakhon Si Thammarat.
The airline additionally offers eight combined domestic routes from Chiang Mai and Phuket. When the October BKK services kick off, Thai AirAsia will fly 41 total domestic routes.
Building the domestic network from BKK is particularly important to the carrier. “Our goal is to connect every corner of Thailand—from the north to the northeast and south—through Suvarnabhumi,” CEO Santisuk Klongchaiya recently said.
