Long-haul LCC Norse Atlantic Airways plans to launch a direct route from Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International ahead of the winter 2025 schedule, Swedish airport operator Swedavia said Nov. 22.
The Boeing 787-operated route will provide a connection with important markets in Thailand, Swedavia said.
“The route will not only serve as an important connection to the Thai capital but also as an important link in the supply chain, with cargo. such as technology, benefiting from faster delivery times,” the operator said.
“There is great confidence in the Swedish air travel market, and Norse Atlantic’s investment in a direct route from Stockholm Arlanda to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi is a clear sign of this,” said Jonas Abrahamsson, president and CEO of Swedavia. “Swedavia’s main goal is to increase the connectivity, and this addition to the airport’s overall offer further facilitates for people to meet, whether it is for business, leisure, or to visit family and friends.”
“This new route ensures travelers have a premium yet budget-friendly choice on one of the most in-demand long-haul routes,” said Norse Atlantic CEO and founder Bjørn Tore Larsen.
Facing liquidity problems and looking for a new investor, Norse Atlantic has been making some changes to its strategy recently. In August, the Scandinavian carrier announced plans to streamline its fleet, operating only 787-9 aircraft, and increase its focus on charter and aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance (ACMI) flying to boost profitability. The carrier took delivery of two 787-9s in May, raising its fleet to 12, and agreed to return three leased 787-8s.
The airline said lower summer fares across the industry had affected its quarterly results.
Norse Atlantic is also shifting its business strategy to dedicate at least half of its winter capacity to ACMI and charter flights, with multi-year contracts under negotiation. Additionally, the airline is joining the Global Distribution System this year to expand sales to corporate and leisure travel agents.
Starting Oct. 29, 2025, Norse Atlantic will operate the Stockholm Arlanda-Bangkok Suvarnabhumi route twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays, until the end of the winter season. The 787 to be utilized on the route will seat 338 passengers and feature premium and economy class seating.
