Steadily expanding Greenville Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) has started its first crossover jet services, increasing links from Upstate South Carolina.
Breeze Airways is introducing five new services to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), CA; Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Hartford, CT; Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport (PVD) in Providence, RI; Orlando International Airport (MCO) in Orlando, and Tampa International Airport (TPA) Tampa, both FL.
Breeze becomes the eighth airline to serve GSP, and it will inaugurate the airport’s first nonstop service to Los Angeles, Hartford and Providence.
Around 2.5 million passengers used GSP in 2023, almost reaching pre-pandemic figures, with 50 daily departures to 22 destinations. In 2022, GSP won the Airport Council International award as ‘Best small airport in North America’.
The airport has a single 11,000ft x 150ft runway and is in the middle of a major upgrade and expansion program.
The airport’s master plan’s first phase, which ended last year, included a new parking garage, together with expansion of the terminal’s Concourse B and the air cargo apron.
The next five-year phase calls for multiple developments, including air cargo apron building expansion, together with baggage claim improvements and new terminal curb design/construction.
The improvements are designed to help attract more carriers such as Breeze.
“Breeze is thrilled to add Greenville-Spartanburg to our route map, as we connect cities without existing nonstop service,” Breeze Airways’ founder and CEO, David Neeleman said.
The new services to Los Angeles, Hartford and Providence/Boston are particularly welcome, Greenville-Spartanburg Airport District president and CEO, Dave Edwards said. “These markets have been among our most requested destinations and GSP is thrilled to make this new service a reality.
“Our region has experienced a steady increase in the number of people from the Northeast and West Coast who have chosen to live and work in the Carolinas. Breeze’s new service significantly enhances our region’s accessibility.” Breeze is operating its new services at GSP with Airbus A220-300s.
