U.S. carrier Breeze Airways will establish a base at Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) in the 2025 summer season, solidifying its presence at the Ohio airport.

The airline said at least 61 pilots, flight attendants and maintenance personnel will be based at CAK. Breeze added that “the base will allow the airline to station aircraft at the airport overnight to further establish a foundation for future growth out of CAK.”

Breeze started serving CAK in June 2021, just weeks after the airline founded by David Neeleman took to the skies. The carrier now operates 10 nonstop routes (year-round and seasonal combined) from the airport, connecting it to: Charleston and Myrtle Beach in South Carolina; Ft. Myers, Orlando, Sarasota-Bradenton and Tampa in Florida; Las Vegas; Los Angeles (LAX); Norfolk, Virginia; and Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina.

Neeleman, Breeze’s CEO, pointed to “high demand” for the airline’s services at CAK, “so establishing a base in the community is a natural fit.” He said the carrier will “continue to invest in Breeze’s future growth at CAK.”

The airline will operate summer seasonal service between CAK and LAX for the second consecutive year from May 22. The CAK-LAX route will be flown 2X-weekly with an Airbus A220 aircraft. Aviation Week Network's Tracked Aircraft Utilization tool shows that Breeze had 35 A220-300s in service in January plus another aircraft in storage.

Leisure-focused ULCC Allegiant Air, which also operates 10 routes from the airport, is Breeze’s main competition at CAK. The airlines compete on three routes. Both operate from CAK to Sarasota-Bradenton and Myrtle Beach. While Breeze flies between CAK and Orlando International Airport, Allegiant connects the Ohio airport to Orlando Sanford Airport.

United Airlines operates from CAK to its hub at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. American Airlines serves its hub in Charlotte, North Carolina, as well as Washington Reagan National Airport, from the airport.
