Australian charter and contract flying specialist Alliance Airlines has executed two letters of intent (LOI) covering the sale of six Embraer 190 airframes.
Under the LOIs, Alliance will sell, to an unnamed European company, the six airframes that have been, or will be, purchased by Alliance over the next nine months.
These aircraft represent six of the 30 E190s previously announced in February 2023 as being acquired via lessor AerCap.
The six aircraft will be flown from the U.S. to Europe, where the engines will be removed and shipped to Australia.
At the time of the purchase announcement of the 30 aircraft in 2023, Alliance said that some of the aircraft might be disassembled, and the engines and other components retained to support the balance of the company’s Embraer fleet, ensuring the carrier has access to a sizeable parts pool.
“It is important to note that the underlying basis for the AerCap transaction was to provide a ready supply of high-quality GE CF34-10 engines for Alliance’s growing E190 fleet, and this transaction forms an important part of that strategy,” Alliance’s Managing Director Scott McMillan reiterated earlier this month.
Alliance declined to provide any further details of the transaction, or the identity of the airframe purchaser.
Alliance specializes in charters and "fly in, fly out" services, ferrying workers to remote mineral extraction sites in Australia’s interior, as well as providing wet-lease services to other airlines.
Alliance’s fleet consists of 37 Fokker 70/100s and 46 E190s, with firm purchase commitments stretching to mid-2026 for a further 17 E190s.
The company has operational bases in Brisbane, Townsville, Cairns, Adelaide, Perth, Darwin and Rockhampton.
