FARNBOROUGH—Pratt & Whitney has secured an order from Avolon for the PW1100G geared turbofan (GTF) to power 80 Airbus A320neos.
Announced here at the Farnborough Airshow, the order is one of the largest placed by a lessor for the GTF to date, Pratt said.
"We are building on our collaboration with Avolon, who remains at the forefront of the lessor community," said Rick Deurloo, Pratt’s president of commercial engines.
On the first day of the show, the engine-maker secured an order for additional GTFs from lessor SMBC. Both lessors were already GTF customers.
The commitments break an order drought for the engine as prospective customers have held back from placing orders while Pratt works through durability and manufacturing issues with the GTF. The Aviation Week Fleet Discovery database shows that there were no orders for PW1100G engines in the first half of 2024.
Avolon’s order more than doubles the number of GTF-powered aircraft in its delivered and committed fleet to 158.
