HAECO Group, A Key Player For Over 15 Years In GE90 Engine Services
GE90: A record-breaking engine with a bright future
The GE90 engine family has achieved impressive milestones: over 3,000 engines delivered, more than 130 million flight hours, and 18 million flight cycles. Designed specifically for the Boeing 777, the GE90 first entered production in 1995 and quickly became a record-breaking engine, known for its fan size, overall pressure ratio, and thrust.
HAECO Group's role
HAECO Group has been a key player in this success story for over 15 years and HAECO Engine Services (Xiamen) has made significant contributions to the GE90’s legacy. In 2010, HAECO completed its first Performance Restoration of a GE90-115B for Cathay Pacific Airways. Since then, the facility has performed nearly 1,000 overhauls for 36 operators worldwide, positioning itself among the top GE90 overhaul service providers.
Recent developments
Recently, HAECO Engine Services extended its GE Branded Service Agreement (GBSA) with GE Aerospace. This agreement allows access to OEM-licensed repairs, making the Xiamen facility one of the most extensive repair and overhaul shops for GE90 and GE9X engines outside of the OEM. Additionally, a long-term Material Service Agreement (MSA) for GE90 engines will enable HAECO to continue providing overhaul services for GE Aerospace and expand its external GE90 market.
"Our priority is to deliver top-notch solutions for the GE90," says Gerald Steinhoff, HAECO Group Chief Commercial Officer. With the GE9X entering service and the GE90 reaching maturity, more engines are becoming available for overhaul as long-term service contracts expire. Klaus-Peter Leinauer, Senior Vice President Group Commercial EMEA, noted the quick success of this strategy, highlighted by three full engine overhauls, including LLP exchanges, contracted for a customer in the EMEA region.
Comprehensive services
The key to this deal was HAECO's ability to offer engine change services in Hong Kong, leveraging its position as a leading line and base maintenance provider. Claudio Muehlich, Director Group Commercial EMEA, emphasized that this "nose-to-tail" service approach is a significant advantage.
To enhance its service portfolio, HAECO Global Engine Support (GES) was established in 2019. GES offers round-the-clock on-wing and off-wing engine support from strategic locations in Hong Kong, Amsterdam, London, and Dallas. While currently focusing on Rolls-Royce engines and CFM International CFM56 and LEAP engines, GES will greatly complement HAECO's overall engine services, providing customers with flexible solutions ranging from on-wing inspections to full engine overhauls. HAECO Engine Services currently maintains over 400 GE90 repair schemes, allowing for 75% of parts to be kept in-house—a flexibility that benefits every engine customer.
A joint venture success
HAECO Group is also part of another successful engine joint venture, HAESL, which combines the strengths of Rolls-Royce plc and HAECO. This partnership leverages Rolls-Royce's expertise as an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and HAECO's extensive repair and overhaul experience with Rolls-Royce engines, further solidifying HAECO's position in the aviation maintenance industry.
