São Paulo Viracopos Airport Pursues Route Expansion Across North America, Europe, and Asia

Brazil’s São Paulo - Campinas Viracopos International Airport (VCP), located just 45 minutes from São Paulo, serves as a strategic hub for Latin America.

Catering to a region with approximately three million residents and a wider catchment area of over 38 million, VCP offers more than 70 direct domestic and international routes across the Americas and Europe, welcoming over 12.5 million passengers in 2023—a 5.75% increase from the previous year.

Positioned near key industrial, commercial, and technological hubs, including Campinas, known as the “Brazilian Silicon Valley”, VCP is designed to accommodate up to 25 million travelers annually. Its affluent and business passenger market underscores the airport's growth potential. Additionally, Viracopos boasts significant potential for cargo operations, leveraging its strategic location and advanced infrastructure to serve as a key logistics hub for Brazil and beyond.

As Azul Airlines’ primary hub, VCP saw the addition of Paris Orly to its long-haul network in April 2023. Within its first year, the route carried more than 191,000 passengers. Other recent new routes include the addition of Asunción, Paraguay, which is served five times per week by Azul using Embraer E2 aircraft. In addition to these, Azul operates flights to the USA (MCO and FLL) and Portugal (LIS), further enhancing its international network.

With multiple airline incentives and the capacity for mass growth, the airport has uploaded several unserved and underserved route opportunities to its Routes 360 profile.
