Spain is Western Europe’s largest aviation market during the second quarter (Q2) of 2024, with more than 47.6 million departure seats from and within the country during the period.
The figure is a rise of 10% compared with Q2 of 2019 and is up by 10.5% year-on-year. The UK drops to second position in the list with capacity at about 47.2 million seats, equivalent to 99% of pre-pandemic capacity.
Of Western Europe’s other major markets, Italy is at 114% of 2019 levels during Q2 2024, while Türkiye is at 116.9%. Greece is also up by 25.4% and Portugal by 14.5%.

However, Germany still lags Q2 2019, having only recovered to 84.8% of the capacity at that time. France and the Netherlands are also marginally down at 97.7% and 97.1%, respectively.
Ryanair remains the largest airline by capacity offered from and within Western Europe, offering some 50 million seats during the three months to the end of June. EasyJet is second with 27.1 million seats, followed by Lufthansa with almost 16.3 million.
