Overall capacity from and within Denmark’s market is set to edge closer to pre-pandemic levels during the second quarter (Q2) of 2024, hitting 6.19 million departure seats. This marks a return to 99.6% of the available seats during Q2 of 2019 and an increase of 10.1% year-on-year.
The number of domestic seats totals about 540,000 during the three months to June, while international accounts for almost 5.7 million departure seats. The UK is Denmark’s largest overseas market during the period, while Copenhagen-Oslo is the biggest route by capacity.
Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) remains Denmark’s largest carrier with a 30.8% capacity share of all departure seats in Q2 2024, offering a total of 1.9 million seats. However, this is a decrease of more than 200,000 seats compared with Q2 2019, when the Star Alliance member commanded a 34% share.

New routes launching from Denmark during the second quarter of the year include the addition of Copenhagen-Atlanta by SAS. From June 17, the carrier will introduce daily service during the summer months using Airbus A330-300 aircraft, reducing to 5X-weekly during the winter season onboard A350-900s.
Atlanta, a primary hub for Delta Air Lines, will become the ninth destination served by SAS in North America. The move is a first step by the Scandinavian carrier to realign its network ahead of switching alliances to SkyTeam.
