Qatar Airways will become the first major international airline to resume regular service to Syria following the ousting of longtime President Bashar al-Assad.

The first flights to be operated at Syrian airports since the revolution that overthrew the Assad regime have taken place.

The startup intends to fly to nine destinations from its base in Yerevan, but it has to contend with a border conflict in addition to COVID-19.

Despite the current political instability in Syria, ChamWings, the country’s first privately-owned carrier, has emerged as an important provider of international air connectivity in and out of the country with links across the Arab peninsula and into North Africa.
