Warsaw is looking to translate large fighter, helicopter and weapons purchases into a stronger defense industrial footprint.

The order is second time lucky for the AW149 in Poland, as Leonardo was previously beat out by Airbus’ H225M—although that order was cancelled in 2016.

U.S. and European defense suppliers are supporting the development of Poland’s air defense system and the development of future missiles to support it.

Warsaw expects delivery of all four Polish Navy Leonardo AW101s—purchased in a deal worth €380 million ($427 million)—by the end of this year.
