First E195-E2 Commercial Flight To London City Airport

Helvetic Airways E195-E2

On March 26th, a significant milestone in aviation history takes place as the first commercial flight to London City Airport (LCY) operated by the E195-E2 commences. Helvetic Airways is operating the ZRH–LCY–ZRH route, marking a new era following the Steep Approach certification.

This event, organized in collaboration with Helvetic Airways and London City Airport, begins in Zurich and continues in London. The E195-E2, the largest, most efficient, and most sustainable aircraft certified for LCY, makes its debut. The aircraft boasts 30% lower CO₂ emissions per seat and a 63% smaller noise footprint compared to the previous generation. Passengers enjoy greater comfort with a spacious cabin and no middle seats. The E195-E2 is optimized for challenging airports, ensuring superior performance.

The Steep Approach certification of the E195-E2 is a crucial achievement, allowing it to operate at airports like LCY, which require approach slopes greater than the typical 3.0 degrees. This certification is enabled through a special software upgrade and the installation of a Steep Approach switch on the cockpit control panel. This feature allows the aircraft to comply with the steeper approach angle required by LCY, while minimizing deviations caused by gusts or turbulence.

The E2 Enhanced Takeoff System (E2TS) is another groundbreaking technology introduced by Embraer. This system automates a crucial part of the takeoff process that traditionally requires manual intervention from pilots. The E2TS delivers a more precise and efficient takeoff, reducing runway length requirements and increasing payload capacity. This is particularly beneficial for airports like LCY, which have shorter runways.

The advanced fly-by-wire system of the E195-E2 and the E2TS ensure smooth and gentle handling qualities for pilots, making it easier to operate in challenging environments like LCY.

This event not only highlights the technological advancements of the E195-E2 but also underscores Embraer's commitment to sustainability and passenger comfort. The collaboration with Helvetic Airways and London City Airport sets a new standard for commercial aviation.
