Iberia Maintenance's Barcelona hangar can accommodate six narrowbody or four narrowbody and one widebody line of maintenance. Iberia Maintenance performs third-party airframe maintenance, but the Barcelona hangar is currently full with International Airlines Group aircraft.

Expanding Heavy Checks

Mar Noguera, senior manager of airframe services Barcelona, says the company plans to expand that to four narrowbody heavy check lines, as soon as its backshops are ready in order to complete autonomous checks.

Iberia Maintenance switched from primarily line maintenance before to the pandemic to heavy maintenance in 2020. This necessitated growing the workshop capabilities and staff. Avionics maintenance was underway here.

This Iberia A320 is undergoing a C1 check, along with an Inmarsat WiFi installation, an engine change and a landing gear change. The check is scheduled for 15 days.
Wifi Installation

Here is the cabin wireless access point for the Inmarsat WiFi system. This is one of Iberia’s last aircraft to get the WiFi installation. About 95% of Iberia’s fleet already includes it.

The facility includes a training room for up to 12 students at one time. This group is taking a two-month aircraft type training course.
Iberia Maintenance's Barcelona Hangar

Iberia Maintenance's oval hangar at El Prat airport opened in 2010. It is one of the only, if not only, oval hangar. Its roof includes solar panels.
