A former Bombardier Service Center complex at Middle Georgia Regional Airport has reopened as Slate Aviation’s new 80,000 ft.² MRO and cabin conversion facility.

Slate Aviation, alongside Macon-Bibb County, announced the opening of the new MRO facility to support maintenance and cabin conversions of its almost 35 CRJ-200 aircraft to VIP charter and shuttle seating configurations, according to the company.

The facility is currently staffed by over 40 technicians and led by Jonathan Cornwell, the company’s vice president of aircraft production. Slate plans to grow its staff to 50 full-time employees throughout 2025.

“Macon-Bibb County has a very favorable business climate, a talented workforce, and it is strategically located for our needs,” Slate Co-Owner Heather Maguire says. “We look forward to getting to work here and are so appreciative of the warm welcome we’ve received from the Macon-Bibb community.”

In February, Macon-Bibb County announced plans to build a guitar-shaped FBO at Middle Georgia Regional Airport—a nod to the county’s longstanding history of music.

“I want to welcome Slate Aviation to our community and to Team Macon-Bibb,” Macon-Bibb Mayor Lester Miller says. “With these world-class charter planes being created here—and the coming of our world-class FBO shaped like a guitar—we are truly putting Macon-Bibb on the map.”
