Aevex Aerospace revealed the once-secretive Phoenix Ghost family of large one-way attack munitions delivered to Ukraine at the Association of U.S. Army’s annual meeting in Washington on Oct. 14.

The family includes the Group II-size Atlas and Group III-size Disruptor and Dominator uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS).

Each member of the family is distinct in terms of shape and performance capabilities, a design artifact from the family’s origins as targets for testing counter-UAS weapons.

After Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, Aevex converted the family into one-way attack munitions, selling thousands to the U.S. military, which transferred the aerial weapons to Ukrainian forces.

A recent upgrade to the dominator adds electronic fuel injection to the engine to nearly double the range to 1,150 km (715 mi.), the company says.

Further upgrades are being reviewed. Aevex recently acquired Veth Research Associates, which owns guidance and navigation technology for GPS-denied environments, including a sensor fusion system. Aevex officials said they plan to add those systems to the Phoenix Ghost family.
