Bombardier marked the shipment of its 1,000th super-midsize jet with the milestone delivery of a Challenger 3500 to longstanding customer JM Family Enterprises at a ceremony at its delivery center in Montreal.
The aircraft, N839JM, is Serial No. 21047, according to the Aviation Week Network Fleet Discovery database.
It joins two additional Challenger 3500s in JM Family Enterprises’ fleet, along with a Challenger 350, the data show.
“Reaching the delivery of our 1,000th super-midsize aircraft marks a defining moment for Bombardier,” says Eric Martel, Bombardier president and CEO. “This milestone is a testament to the dedication and exceptional talent of our employees, as well as the trust and loyalty of our customers around the world. It holds even greater significance as we are celebrating with a client who shares our family values, entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to the community.”
The midsize jet began life in the 1990s as the Bombardier Continental and was later named the Challenger 300. The clean-sheet aircraft was positioned between the Learjet 60 and the Challenger 604. The program was formally launched at the Paris Air Show in 1999.
The company then introduced an improved variant, the Challenger 350, which first flew in March 2013 and certified in 2014 with NetJets as its launch customer. The Challenger 350 was upgraded to improve performance, comfort and technology with longer range, larger windows and redesigned cabin.
Bombardier unveiled the latest evolution, the upgraded Challenger 3500, at an event in Montreal in September 2021.
