Poll: Will the Elimination of Some Change Fees Affect Bookings On U.S. Carriers?
The most hated airline fee in the U.S. appears to be on the way out, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For years, travelers have complained of exorbitant fees to change flights, a practice that came into prominence as carriers emerging from bankruptcy looked toward ancillary revenue streams to offset increasing competition from LCCs.
That looks set to change, however, following a decision from United Airlines to permanently abandon its $200 change fees for all domestic tickets besides basic economy, leading Delta Air Lines and American Airlines to follow suit in short order. Southwest Airlines, on the other hand, has never charged change fees.
