This week the latest airline to register for World Routes in Abu Dhabi was Hungarian low cost carrier Wizz Air. Wizz join the other major European low cost carriers; easyJet, Norwegian, Vueling and Germanwings who have already registered to attend the event.
This consolidates a very strong European airline presence which also includes carriers such as British Airways, Iberia, Lufthansa, Air France, KLM, Air Berlin, Swiss, SAS and LOT Polish. In total over 300 airline delegates representing nearly 200 of the World’s airlines are now registered for the 18thWorld Route Development Forum.
Other recent additions this week include high level delegates Ms Marlene Manave, CEO of LAM - Linhas Aereas de Mozambique and Dr Titus T Naikuni, Group Managing Director & CEO of Kenya Airways who will both be attending World Routes for the first time. Following their recent aircraft order worth 21.7 billion US dollars, Indonesian low cost carrier LionAir will also be in attendance in Abu Dhabi marking the first time this carrier has attended World Routes since 2008 when the event was held in Kuala Lumpur. The complete and up to date list of airline attendees for World Routes 2012 can be found here
Almost 850 airport delegates have also registered to attend the event to date and with recent confirmations received from ICF Airports - Antalya Airport, Tampa International Airport and Krasnoyarsk Yemelyanovo Airport the number of airports represented is nearing 400.
Tourism authority representation continues to go from strength to strength with recent registrations from Municipality Of Trondheim, Instituto Panameno de Turismo (IPAT) and Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development who will all be attending Routes for the first time ever.
This year Routes will offer Interline Meetings at World Routes and for the first time these sessions will take place during a dedicated interline session, more details of which will be released over the coming weeks. With over 300 airlines expected to attend the event this is a great chance to meet and discuss SPA’s, Interline Agreements and access to thinner markets via existing or potential partners. Routes are encouraging airlines to bring their interline or alliance manager to Routes this year, along with their network planners where they will gain access to carriers from all corners of the globe.
In addition to the meetings and core activities of the event this year’s Word Route Development Strategy Summit, taking place on 30 September – 1 October, will run alongside World Routes. The event has received overwhelming interest, and The HUB can now confirm that not only will every industry sector be represented at the summit - but every region of the world will be too.
