What’s On The Horizon For: Tallinn Airport
Speaking at Routes Europe 2024 Tallinn Airport, located within Estonia’s capital city, discussed its recent route successes and growing inbound tourism market.
Serving close to three million passengers in 2023, Tallinn Airport (TLL) has experienced a 91% recovery compared to pre-pandemic figures. With nine new routes launched last year, TLL continues its success into 2024 expecting a 20% increase in capacity growth throughout its summer schedule.
Services from three new airline partners accelerate the TLL destination portfolio including the inaugural flight from Eurowings to Prague in March 2024. Beginning with a 3X-weekly service, the frequency increased to 4X-weekly in May. Transavia France also launched its Paris Orly Airport (ORY) to TLL service 2X-weekly from April 2024.
A highly significant route launch for TLL is from flydubai. From 12 October 2024, for the first time in Estonian history, passengers can fly direct to the United Arab Emirates with the Dubai route opening a wealth of connecting destinations.
TLL has a commendable partnership with its destination marketing organization, Visit Estonia. The collaboration has brought to fruition the launch of a route fund to provide marketing support to the airlines promoting Estonia. Since 2022, Visit Estonia has carried out 10 campaigns with airlines to promote the destination across the European market with a further seven campaigns planned in 2024.
Exhibiting alongside Visit Estonia at Routes Europe 2024 Eero Pärgmäe, chief commercial officer at TLL, said: “We are very actively working together with our destination marketing organization because of the incoming tourism market” adding that “key markets include France, Germany and the UK” as well as Spain being an unserved leisure market for Estonians.
The airport also develops multi-channel marketing initiatives to ensure route sustainability with its airline partners.
