What’s On The Horizon For: Münster/Osnabrück Airport
Speaking to Routes in Aarhus during Routes Europe 2024 Münster/Osnabrück Airport (FMO) outlined recent success with airline partners and how the northwest German airport plans to increase passenger numbers.
Having reached pre-COVID passenger levels in 2023, with traffic of 991,471 passengers during the year, FMO is one of the few commercial airports in Germany to have fully recovered. Additionally, new route launches and capacity increases this year are expected to result in FMO's strongest summer schedule since 2008.
Notable developments include Ryanair's expanded services to Alicante and Condor's additional flights to Palma de Mallorca. Operations to Antalya by Mavi Gök Airlines and Pegasus Airlines have also commenced.
Lufthansa has also increased capacity on the FMO-Munich route, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the service, while Sundair plans to base an aircraft at FMO for winter flights to the Canary Islands and Hurghada, Egypt. Elsewhere, Air Cairo has converted its summer route to Hurghada into a year-round service due to the popularity of the route.

With 24/7 flight operations and a favorable catchment area, FMO aims to expand both business and leisure scheduled flights while boosting LCC activity.
Speaking to Routes, FMO’s manager of aviation marketing Detlef Döbberthin says: “We are still looking to fill the gaps we have in our schedule. At the moment this is on a schedule base especially with Vienna and London, and on the tourist base Malaga and Faro. We are actively exploring possibilities to cover these unserved and underserved routes.”
Having become a Routes 360 member earlier this year, FMO actively utilizes the platform to enhance airport visibility and share incentives with airlines.
Discussing its membership, Döbberthin adds: “We often use Routes 360 to show what our airport can offer and our USPs in the market. As a smaller airport, airlines may not be aware of the incentives we have which is where Routes 360 plays a key role in supporting us to share this into the aviation community.”
Expanding awareness of recent success and route opportunities, FMO has uploaded potential services and latest developments to its Routes 360 profile.
