Routes Africa is the route development forum for the African region and recently it was announced that the 7th Routes Africa event will be hosted by the Seychelles Tourism Board in partnership with the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority. The event will take place 8-10 July 2012 in the Seychelles capital Victoria and is expected to attract up to 150 delegates.
Registrations are now being taken for this event which will bring together route development professionals from across Africa, the Middle East and beyond to discuss the latest developments within the region and establish potential for new air traffic routes to, from and within Africa.
The event was only announced two weeks ago and already registrations have been received from Arik Air, Etihad Airways and South African Airways who are the largest airline in the African region. Early registrations from airports are also being received, most recently from Ghana Airports, Aeroportos de Mozambique, Copenhagen Airports and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
Opened in March 1972 Seychelles International Airport (SEZ) is this year celebrating its 40th anniversary which marks the beginning of aviation and tourism development in the Seychelles. Over the years SEZ has been equipped with adequate amenities to meet current air transport demands as well as those of national regulators, service providers, commercial operators and other users.
Ten international carriers from a number of international hubs in Africa, Europe and the Middle East now provide connections to SEZ. Continuous growth over the last few years, consistent with the increase in air services, has resulted in almost 250,000 passengers using the airport in 2011. The airport is also a hub for inter-island travel and provides quick and convenient domestic flights, operated by Air Seychelles, throughout the day to Praslin Island.
