Capacity in the U.S. domestic market is 5% higher during the first quarter (Q1) of 2024, compared with the same period in 2019, totaling some 245.5 million seats.
U.S. international capacity is also 7.9% higher than at this time four years ago, led by the top three markets of Mexico, Canada and the UK. However, nonstop capacity to China remains 77% down on pre-pandemic levels amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and subdued demand.
North of the border, in Canada, the country’s international market is at 99.5% of 2019 levels during Q1 2024, but domestic capacity is 19% down. The collapse of Lynx Air in February highlights the ongoing challenges in Canada’s home market.
