Brazil remains the largest aviation market in the Latin American and Caribbean region, although the country is yet to return to pre-pandemic capacity.

Analysis of OAG Schedules Analyser data shows seat capacity has recovered to 96.4% of 2019 levels during the first quarter (Q1) of 2024 to 33.1 million seats. Mexico has narrowed the gap in second place with its total capacity swelling by 17% compared with Q1 2019.

Bogotá is the largest airport by departure seats, ahead of Mexico City Juárez and Sao Paulo Guarulhos, while the Routes Americas 2024 host features in three of the continent’s busiest domestic routes and one of the top five international sectors.

Overall, Latin America’s domestic capacity is at 77.8 million seats during Q1 2024, while the number of international departure seats from the region is 45.9 million. This puts total domestic capacity up by 6.3% on Q1 2019 and international capacity 12.7% higher.
