ANA REINSTATES SHANGHAI SERVICE
Star Alliance member, All Nippon Airways has announced that it will resume services from Nagoya to Shanghai Pudong. From March 27th, ANA will resume the sector on a daily basis after having cancelled the route due to slot issues. It will compete on the route with Air China, China Southern and JAL which operate a daily service each, whilst China Eastern operates a triple daily service. The route has seen over 460,000 passengers travel between October 2009 and October 2010 with China Eastern having a 37% share.
BANGKOK AIRWAYS TO INAUGURATE MUMBAI
Thailand based operator, Bangkok Airways has announced that it will begin a new six-times weekly service from Bangkok to Mumbai effective March 2nd. It will enter a route that it heavily served by other carriers with Air India serving it daily, Kingfisher six-times weekly, Jet Airways twice-daily, Thai International Airways ten-times weekly and Cathay Pacific operates a fifth freedom flight three-times weekly. The route has seen over 330,000 passengers fly between October 2009 and October 2010 with Thai International the market leader with a 29% share of all scheduled passengers.
ASIANA BOOSTS US CAPACITY
Star Alliance member, Asiana has announced that it will increase existing capacity into the US from May 2011. Effective May 24th, it will operate the Seoul Incheon to San Francisco route on a daily basis with B777 equipment. It competes with Korean Air which operates the sector four-times weekly, United Airlines which operates the service daily and Singapore Airlines which also provides a daily flight. Over 321,000 O+D passengers flew the route between October 2009 and October 2010.
On the same date, Asiana will also boost its scheduled services to Seattle from five-times weekly to a daily, operated with A330 aircraft.
CHINA EASTERN TO BEGIN KATHMANDU LINK
China Eastern has announced that effective January 11th, it will begin non-stop services from its Kunming base to the capital of Nepal, Kathmandu. The route will be operated on a thrice-weekly basis with B737-700 aircraft. It will be the only non-stop service to be operated between the two markets.
STARFLYER INTENDS TO BEGIN NEW SERVICES
Japan’s StarFlyer on 27DEC10 announced its intention to start International service from 2012.From July 2012, the airline plans to operate a twice daily round-trip Kitakyushu to Busan service on board Airbus A320 aircraft.
