SKYTEAM MEMBER BOOSTS HANEDA FLIGHTS
SkyTeam member, Korean Air has announced that it will add a third daily service from its Seoul Gimpo base to Tokyo's Haneda Airport. Effective October 31st, the airline will launch a third daily frequency on a route that between June 2009 and 2010 saw over 1.6 million O+D passengers travelling between them. Korean competes on the route with JAL and All Nippon which operate a double daily frequency and low-cost operator Asiana which operates a daily service.
DELTA AIR LINES TO LAUNCH NEW SERVICE TO SAIPAN
Delta will begin a new thrice-weekly service from Nagoya to Saipan from February 2nd, increasing to a daily service from March 1st, 2011. Delta currently serve Saipan as an extension from Tokyo Narita, and will now add a new service from Nagoya from where it has scheduled services in Asia to Guam, Manila and Narita.
BANGKOK GAINS NEW RUSSIAN ROUTE
Russia's second largest carrier, Transaero has revealed that it will add a new three-times weekly flight from Novosibirsk to Bangkok. The new service will be operated from November 1st and will be served with B767-300ER equipment. For this coming winter season Transaero has expanded its Bangkok portfolio, a popular destination for Russian tourists, to 19 weekly flights. Transaero will operate two weekly services from St Petersburg, twelve weekly from its main base at Moscow Domodedovo, twice weekly from Moscow Shermetyevo as well as the new service from Novosibirsk.
HAINAN AIRLINES SET TO INCREASE PHUKET CAPACITY
Hainan Airlines will place widebody equipment in the shape of B767-300 in place of narrowbody B737-800 on its Beijing to Phuket service. Frequency will remain the same with three weekly flights from November 2nd. Hainan Airlines is currently the only airline operating non-stop flights on this route.
FIREFLY ADDS NEW WINTER ROUTES
Malaysia Airlines subsidiary, Firefly has announced that it is set to add three new routes from its Penang base. From February 1st it will add a new four-times weekly route to Kota Bahru, and a thrice-weekly to Kuantan. Whilst from March 1st, the regional operator will also begin operations into Kuala Terrenganu on a thrice-weekly basis. Penang is Firefly's second largest base with Subang its largest base with 41% of all scheduled flights from Subang is 17% from Penang.
