Interjet Inks Orlando service
Mexican LCC Interjet has established the first non-stop route between Monterrey and Orlando following the launch of a once-weekly non-stop scheduled service on the city pair from June 26.
IATA BSP data shows that the majority of O&D passengers are currently travelling between the two points via Dallas/Fort Worth with American Airlines.
AA Connects Rio and JFK
American Airlines has plans for a new daily non-stop flight from its New York JFK hub to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
The new service will be operated from November 18 with B767-300 equipment. Brazilian national airline, TAM, already operates the sector on a four-times weekly rotation.
American currently serves Rio on a daily basis from Miami, and as an extension of its daily JFK service to São Paulo.
IATA BSP data shows that over 88,000 O&D passengers travelled between JFK and Rio de Janeiro between April 2009 and 2010. TAM took a 45% share of these passengers.
American Adds Florida Link
American Airlines will fly non-stop from its Miami hub to Gainesville, Florida form October 1, the only non-stop service between the markets.
Gainesville (GNV) currently has just two non-stop routes. US Airways flies 26 times a week into its Charlotte hub and Delta makes 47 weekly flights to its Atlanta hub.
Southwest Expands at Phoenix
Southwest Airlines will add two non-stop destinations from Phoenix in the course of the next two months - Minneapolis and Boston.
The airline will head to Minneapolis with twice-daily services from August 15, providing competition to Delta (41 weekly flights), US Airways (28 weekly flights) and Sun Country (four weekly services).
Southwest's daily service to Boston, which starts on September 7, will go head-to-head with JetBlue's seven weekly flights and US Airways' 21 flights a week.
Southwest is the second largest carrier at Phoenix, based on the number of weekly flights, and it competes with US Airways on over 30 city pairs.
