TAP Portugal launch Miami service from June 2011
TAP Portugal is to launch a 5 weekly service to Miami from the 6th June 2011, the service is scheduled to become a 4 weekly operation from late-September 2011. The seasonal Lisbon – Miami service will be operated by an Airbus A330-200 aircraft. TAP Portugal currently only operate to New York (Newark) in North America. According to IATA BSP Data there were 25,546 passengers that travelled between Lisbon and Miami in the 12 month period to October 2010, Iberia carried 45% of these passengers.
American Airlines cancels more San Juan services
It appears that America Airline has made further cuts to San Juan according to the GDS timetable display as per the 21st December 2010. The five routes not showing from 3rd April 2011 are Anguilla, La Romana, Port of Spain, Puerto Plata and Washington Dulles. These route cancellations are on top of the five that were announced back in September 2010 which were Baltimore, Boston, Philadelphia and Santo Domingo and Tampa. In total this means that America Airlines will be cancelling 10 routes from next April from San Juan:

- San Juan – La Romana
- San Juan – Port of Spain
- San Juan – Puerto Plata
- San Juan – Washington Dulles
- San Juan – Baltimore
- San Juan – Boston
- San Juan – Philadelphia
- San Juan – Santo Domingo
- San Juan – Tampa
American Airlines postpone Tokyo Haneda launch
American Airlines has postponed the launch of Tokyo Haneda from 20th January to the 1st March 2011. The carrier has requested to the US Department of Transportation that the service is delayed without penalty owing to the poor demand during the month of lowest demand between Japan and the US.
Continental – Spanair Codeshare
Continental Airlines and Spanair will begin codesharing on transatlantic services and services to Spain and Africa from the 4th January. This will give Spanair customers new direct services to North America, Continental currently operate daily services between New York – Newark to both Madrid and Barcelona. In return Continental will place its code on selected Spanair flights from Madrid and Barcelona Spain and Africa. Both carriers are in the Star Alliance.
TACA Peru builds up Lima base
TACA Peru, the regional Peruvian carrier of the Star Alliance Taca-Avianca group is to launch three new routes from Lima and has indicated that there will be further growth into the regional markets from the Peruvian capital.
From the 15th February 2010 Taca Peru is to launch 3 new domestic Peru service, to Juliaca, Trujillo and Tarapoto. Juliaca and Trujillo will be daily services and Tarapoto will be double daily. All the services will be operated with Embraer E190 aircraft, except Juliaca is served by A320.

Canada Open Skies with Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago
Canada has reached new open skies agreements with Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago. This will allow greater flexibility on frequency, Canada origin point and prices.
According to Flightbase 6-12 December there are currently a number of carriers serving Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago including Air Canada, Jamaica Airlines and Westjet.
