EGYPTAIR TO LAUNCH TORONTO
Star Alliance member Egyptair has announced that it will commence non-stop service from its Cairo hub to Toronto. The new service will begin June 11th and will be operated on a thrice-weekly basis with B777 equipment. There is currently non non-stop service on this sector, although between September 2009 and September 2010, nearly 60,000 O+D passengers flew the route according to IATA BSP data (Airport IS).
JETBLUE BOOST FOR VEGAS
Low-cost operator JetBlue Airways has announced scheduled expansion to Las Vegas from Long Beach, CA. It will increase its existing thrice-daily service to a five-times daily service from February 1st, 2011. JetBlue is the only carrier operating this sector year round.
MEXICAN LOW-COST TO SERVE CHICAGO MIDWAY
Volaris has announced that it will begin services from its Guadalajara base to Chicago Midway, its fourth US destination. The route will be served daily until December 31st and then thrice-weekly until January 26th. Volaris currently operates services to Los Angeles, San Jose and Oakland in the US.
WESTJET EXPANDS CARIBBEAN SERVICE FROM HALIFAX
Low-cost operator Westjet has announced scheduled expansion from Halifax with four new seasonal routes to the Caribbean. It will inaugurate non-stop once weekly routes in February to Montego Bay, Punta Cana, Fort Lauderdale and Tampa. WestJet’s international flying now accounts for over 15% of its entire network.
CONDOR TO OPEN SEATTLE LINK
German leisure operator, Condor, part of the Thomas Cook Group has announced new service from Frankfurt to Seattle. Effective June 24th, it will launch a twice weekly service to Seattle, operated with B767 equipment. The route is already operated by Lufthansa on a daily basis.
