TACA BOOSTS MEXICO CITY SERVICES
The flag carrier of El Salvador, TACA will increase scheduled services from its base in San Salvador with an increase in services to Mexico City. TACA currently operates the route on a nine-times weekly basis which will increase to a thirteen-times weekly service. The changes are effective immediately. Between July 2009 and July 2010, over 40,000 O+D passengers flew the sector with Mexicana having a 64% share of these passengers. TACA increase in services will be timely given the demise of Mexicana.
AMERICAN HEADS TO BOISE
American Airlines regional subsidiary American Eagle will launch its first scheduled non-stop services to Boise, Idaho from 2011. Effective April 5th 2011, Eagle will begin a twice-daily service from Los Angeles operated with ERJ-140 equipment. The route is currently operated 11 times-weekly by United Airlines and has seen over 131,000 O+D passengers flying between July 2009 and July 2010.
DELTA ADDS NEW REGIONAL SERVICE FROM DETROIT
SkyTeam member Delta Air Lines will begin new non-stop services from its Atlanta hub to Ashland, Kentucky. The route will be operated twice-daily from March 2nd, 2011 and will be operated with regional aircraft CRJ200 by regional partner Comair. The route will replace existing twice-daily service to Ashland originating at Delta’s Cincinnati hub.
SOUTHWEST ADDS NEW ROUTES FROM DENVER
The world’s largest low-cost airline, Southwest Airlines has announced that from June 5th, 2011 that it will begin non-stop services to Colombus, Ohio. It will compete on the route with Star Alliance member United Airlines. It will also add services to Jacksonville, Florida, a route with no existing service. Finally, Dallas-headquarted Southwest will begin a new scheduled services to Pittsburgh, a route also served by United Airlines. All new routes will be operated on a daily basis.
FLORIDA EXPANSION FOR DELTA AIR LINES
Delta Air Lines will add significant expansion in Florida from March 26th, 2011 with the news that it will add scheduled services from its Miami operation to Orlando, Jacksoville and Tampa. It will inaugurate services to Orlando, where it will compete with American Airlines and Continental Airlines, whilst on Jacksonville it will compete also with American Airlines. The Miami to Tampa sector is served by American and Continental. The new routes will be operated by regional partners Comair and Pinnacle.
