AIR JAMAICA LAUNCHES NEW FLIGHTS
Air Jamaica, which is now owned by Trinidad & Tobago's Caribbean Airlines, announced that it is resuming daily flights to the Cayman Islands as well as the return of its summer service from New York JFK to the islands of Barbados and Grenada on July 1. The airline also stated that once the daily non-stop from New York is approved, it will operate three-times weekly to Barbados, and four times a week to Grenada. It will also resume services to Nassau in the Bahamas in July.
Air Jamaica's service to New York offers two daily flights from Montego Bay and three daily flights from Kingston. Additionally the carrier will also offer daily flights to Philadelphia and Nassau. This is in addition to its four daily flights to Fort Lauderdale and twice daily service to Toronto.
AEROFLOT HEADS TO NICARAGUA
Russian flag carrier Aeroflot will launch services from Moscow to Managua, Nicaragua in early October. The route will be operated as a double drop via Havana, which is currently linked to Moscow Sheremetyevo on a four-times weekly basis. Managua currently has 8 scheduled carriers operating 110 weekly flights, with Copa Airlines the leading carrier in the market.
TAM TO START RIO DE JANEIRO FRANKFURT
Brazilian carrier TAM has confirmed that it will begin five-times weekly services to Frankfurt from August 10. The route will be operated with A330-200s. IATA BSP data (Airport IS) shows that over 22,000 passengers have flown the route between March 2009 and 2010. The majority of traffic transits via Sao Paulo using TAM and on Air France to Charles de Gaulle and Paris.
DELTA ADDS CAPACITY TO GUAM
Skyteam member, Delta Air Lines has announced a second daily winter service from Osaka Kansai to Guam on December 22. The route is operated with B757 equipment and IATA BSP data shows that between March 2009 and 2010, over 360,000 O&D passengers travelled on this route, with JAL representing 36% of this traffic.
