Muscat Seeks Greater Connectivity Across Europe And Asia

Oman Airports administrates the civil airports in Oman, including Muscat International Airport (MCT), Salalah Airport (SLL), Duqm Airport (DQM), and Sohar Airport (OHS).

Overall passenger numbers for Oman Airports reached a 14.2 million during 2023, with both Muscat and Salalah airports experiencing monthly year-on-year growth throughout 2023.

MCT is served by a total of 36 airlines, offering connections to more than 80 airports. Handling over 12.6 million passengers annually, the airport has seen an uptick in frequencies on existing routes and the introduction of new services across the GCC region, Asia, and Africa.

As a key hub for Oman Air initiate seasonal services to Zurich (ZRH), Trabzon (TZX), and Male (MLE). Pakistan’s Fly Jinnah also launched its first flights to MCT last May 2024 from Islamabad. Additionally, five new Airlines started their operations from GCC and Africa to Muscat International Airport this year. While Omani carrier Salam Air initiate seasonal services from MCT to Almaty International Airport (ALA) Kazakhstan with Three Weekly Flights, Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) Azerbaijan with Two Weekly Flights and Trabzon Airport (TZX) Turkey with Seven Weekly Flights. Moreover, Salam Air Commenced Seasonal Operations from MCT to Tirana International Airport (TIA) Albania, Two weekly Flights and Sphinx International Airport (SPX) Giza, Egypt, Three weekly Flights. Besides it’s route from MCT to Bacha Khan International Airport (PEW) in Peshawar, Pakistan, in October 2023, operating twice a week, and Tirana in Albania and continue its seasons operation to Almaty.

Furthermore, MCT has been recognized for its performance in customer experience, being named the ‘Best Airport in Customer Service 2023’ award among Middle East airports with 15-20 million passengers by the Airport Council International (ACI). Additionally, MCT has clinched the top spot in AirHealth International's global rankings.

Elsewhere, Oman Airports has also noted substantial success in its cargo offering, with MCT witnessing a notable 7% increase in cargo throughput in 2023 compared to the previous year.

As a member of Routes 360, the only digital platform dedicated to route development, MCT has uploaded multiple route opportunities to its profile, seeking to expand its international offering, particularly within Europe and Asia.
