Monarch’s Long-haul Leisure Market

As one of the UK's largest leisure airlines, Monarch Airlines handles around six million passengers every year.

It is also the oldest airline in the UK to operate under its original brand name and this year marks 42 years of flying.

Route Network

Monarch Airlines' route network spans around 100 destinations across Europe, America, Africa and Asia from the UK's principal and regional airports.

The scheduled service division of Monarch Airlines offers low-cost services from Birmingham, London Gatwick, London Luton and Manchester to destinations in Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar, Cyprus and Turkey.

In addition to scheduled services, Monarch Airlines is the principal independent supplier of charter seats to small and large tour operators.

Monarch's charter destinations span the long-haul network and include: Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, India, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Jordan, Bahrain, Maldives, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, UK and the US.

Fleet Strategy

Based at Luton Airport, Monarch operates a fleet of 31 aircraft (comprising 27 Airbus and four Boeing aircraft).

Monarch will also be one of the first UK carriers to take delivery of the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.

Airline requirements

At Routes Americas, Monarch is looking to speak with airports as well as tourism authorities to develop long-haul routes, particularly in the Canadian and Caribbean market in order to complement its long-haul network using its long haul fleet.

Monarch would also like work with airports on existing routes to see what further benefits can be brought to the network, with further interest in potential new destinations for its S2010 programme with a route potentially able to commence as soon as May 2010. Monarch has identified Rouesonline and Routes Americas as key platforms to source valuable data for potential new destinations.

Further details of Monarch's request for proposals (RFP) can be viewed on Route Exchange.
