Meet The Winners: Prague Airport
Prague Airport experienced a 29% rise in passenger traffic in 2024, forecasting 16.2 million passengers by year-end. This growth is attributed to its strong marketing strategy, airline incentive programs, and partnerships with tourism authorities.
In 2024 alone, PRG added 14 new carriers, 58 new routes, and capacity or frequency increases on over 40 existing services. Notable additions included SCAT Airlines’ 2X-weekly service to Astana and Qanot Sharq Airlines’ new route to Tashkent, both launched in May. Hainan Airlines began 3X-weekly flights to Beijing in June, and EgyptAir returned to Cairo in July after a 13-year hiatus.
In 2025, PRG anticipates further growth with Air Canada resuming seasonal service to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Etihad Airways launching its first-ever Abu Dhabi route, both starting in June.
Jiri Vyskoc, PRG’s Executive Director of Aviation Business Development, emphasized the airport’s focus on enhancing long-haul connectivity, particularly targeting routes to New York, Shanghai, and Seoul. Other high-potential unserved routes include New Delhi, Bangkok, and Hanoi. Notably, Hanoi is Prague’s largest unserved market, driven by the Czech Republic’s significant Vietnamese community, the third largest in Europe.
European route opportunities also remain a priority, with potential connections to Hamburg, Bordeaux, Toulouse, and Zagreb.
Commenting on PRG’s Routes World Award win in the 10-20 Million Passengers category, Vyskoc said: “It’s a fantastic achievement for the whole team and great recognition of our work and relationships with airlines. At the same time, it’s motivation to further strengthen these relationships.”
Exhibiting at Routes World 2024, PRG highlighted its commitment to building visibility within the route development community. “We’ve had a lot of productive meetings, and it’s extremely important for us to be here for visibility that promotes Prague Airport and the destination,” Vyskoc added.
PRG actively pursues to fill its unserved and underserved route opportunities while staying engaged with the route development community year-round through its Routes 360 profile.
