FLYDUBAI TO OPEN ARMENIAN AND IRAQ SERVICES
Emirates subsidiary, Flydubai is launching a new thrice-weekly service to the Armenian capital of Yerevan. The new service will begin November 21st and will be followed on November 24th, with a twice-weekly service to Sulaymaniyah in Iraq. Both routes will be operated with B737-800 equipment. Flydubai will compete with Armavia which operates a thrice- weekly service from Yerevan to Dubai. Service to Sulaymaniyah will hope to stimulate traffic flows from Iraq to the Middle East.
BEIJING RETURN FOR AFRIQIYAH
Libyan flag carrier, Afriqiyah Airways will launch services to Beijing from the capital of Libya, Tripoli. The route will be operated on a twice-weekly rotation operated with A330-200 equipment. With only two carriers operating non-stop services from Africa to China, Air Algerie from Algiers to Beijing and Egyptair from Cairo to Beijing, Afriqiyah will hope to take a share of the O+D market from Africa to China, which between July 2009 and 2010 was just short of the one million mark. Emirates is the major benefactor of this traffic with a 23% share of all traffic between the African continent and China.
KENYA AIRWAYS RESUMES DOMESTIC LINK
Kenya Airways will launch a six-times weekly service from Nairobi to Malindi effective December 6th. The news will be a blow to Fly540 which operates eight-weekly rotations on the city pairs with Q400 equipment. Kenya Airways will operate E170 aircraft.
ETHIOPIAN AIRLINES RAMPS UP MIDDLE EAST CAPACITY
Ethiopian Airlines has revealed that from October 31st, it will add a daily service to Bahrain and Kuwait from its home base of Addis Ababa. The route is operated as a triangle, allowing Ethiopian to serve markets that it considers too thin to operate both on a non-stop basis. The flights are operated with B737 equipment.
TUNISAIR LAUNCHES GERMAN AND SWISS ROUTES
Tunisair will launch five new routes from Enfidha to Germany and Switzerland. Effective April 2nd, it will launch a weekly service to Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich as well as twice weekly to Zurich.
