Air Malta Expands in Milan
As well as announcing the first stages of a codeshare with Austrian airlines, Air Malta will run a twice-weekly service to Milan Linate under the winter schedule, it was confirmed this week.
The route will be launched on October 31, and the operating aircraft is expected to be an A319 or A320.
Air Malta currently serves Milan Malpensa on a six times weekly basis.
Russia's S7 to Land in Bangkok
Moscow-based S7 Airlines will launch two flights a week linking Khabarovsk (close to the border with China) with Bangkok from October.
The route will be served with 767-300ERs.
S7 currently serves Bangkok from Novosibirsk, Russia's third largest city after Moscow and St Petersburg.
Iceland Express warms to Florida with Orlando Link
Low-cost carrier, Iceland Express has announced a four-times weekly seasonal service from its base at Keflavík International Airport to Orlando Sanford, which will run throughout October.
Orlando Sanford's marketing manager, Michael Caires hopes the service will evolve into a regular schedule.
The flights will be operated with 757s, offering 218 seats. The route will also provide onward connections with the carrier from Iceland to Copenhagen and London Gatwick.
Iceland Express is the sister company of UK based Astraeus Airlines whose aircraft will operate the charter programme.
Egyptair to Enter South Sudan Market
Star member, Egyptair is expanding deeper into Africa, announcing new services Sudan's southern capital, Juba starting on August 6.
The new route adds to its existing services to the Sudanese capital of Khartoum, which is served 24 times weekly from Cairo.
Egyptair's current fleet is expected to increase from 66 to 72 aircraft by early 2014.
London City-Scandinavia: A First for BA
British Airways will make its first foray into Scandinavia from London City, with a direct double daily weekday service to Copenhagen, starting on September 12.
The service will be operated by the airline's subsidiary, BA CityFlyer with Embraer 170s and 190s.
The service will compete with Cimber Sterling, which flies the sector 11-times weekly with ATR equipment.
