Turkish Airlines to serve Sydney
It is reported that Turkish Airlines will add 10 new international destinations to its network in 2011 and one of these new services will be Sydney in the fourth quarter of 2011. The Sydney operation will be an extension of the Jakarta service which is currently served as a tag to the Singapore flight. According to Flightbase Turkish Airlines serves Singapore 6 times a week with an A340.
There is currently 26,836 passengers that travel between Istanbul and Sydney and 43% currently travel via the Middle East. But Turkish Airlines will be targeting the connecting market from behind Istanbul from the rest of Europe.
The other 10 destinations reported to be targets for Turkish Airlines are Los Angeles, Dhaka, Guangzhou, Shiraz, Isfahan, Valencia, Malaga and Toulouse.
Safi Airways to suspend Frankfurt
Owing to an EU ban on all operations by Afghan carriers, Safi Airways is to suspend its Frankfurt service. The carrier will suspend the operation from the 10 January and is maintaining services over the holiday season by wet-leasing a European registered aircraft. Frankfurt is the carrier’s only European destination.
Vladivostok Avia obtains Turin charter rights
It has been reported that Russia's Vladivostok Avia is to start charter services to Turin in Italy, because it was unable to operate to Grenoble. The carrier’s request to Rosaviatsia to serve Grenoble has been declined and hence the carrier is to serve Turin instead.
Three new routes for Vueling
Spanish low-cost carrier Vueling has announced that it is to launch three new routes, two from Palma Mallorca and one from Menorca. New for Summer 2011 will be Palma Mallorca to Paris Orly and Venice and Mahon/Menorca to Rome. According to Flightbase for the week 13th-19th December only Air Europe operates the route in the winter period with a 5 weekly schedule, whilst there is no existing Venice service during the winter or Mahan to Rome.
