Brussels Airport plans to expand its departures and arrivals halls under its most significant revamp since the 1990s.
The development project—which is the largest investment since the current terminal and Pier B were completed—also includes a new intermodal hub, drop-off zone, a 300-room hotel and additional green spaces.
“These investments are necessary to cope with passenger growth in the coming years,” Brussels Airport said, detailing its plans on April 18.
The departures and arrivals halls extensions will give more space for passenger processing and intermodal connections.
“In the departure hall at the level of the first check-in rows, the aisles are quite narrow today, and capacity is already approaching the limit at peak times,” the airport said.
Brussels already has a mainline rail station and bus links. This will be joined by a new airport tram link, an upgraded central bus station, a redesigned taxi area, a new platform for intercity buses and improved cycling infrastructure.
Work on the intermodal hub, terminal and hotel will begin in late 2026 at the earliest, for phased completion by 2032.
“These investments will usher in a new era for the airport,” Brussels Airport CEO Arnaud Feist said.
In 2024, Brussels Airport handled 23.6 million passengers and 733,000 metric tons of cargo. This year, 80 airlines will serve a total of 210 direct destinations from the airport.
